Thanks, I had just installed it. Even though it's for OE, it appears to work
in WLM, too.

YW. Let me know how it turns out. I wasn't following the thread that close
and didn't realize you have WLMail. I'd be interested to know if it is
functional with WLMail.

I sent a reply to Jose's post to myself, and the reply marks ">" were
there. I haven't looked into any of the other aspects of the program since
that was all I am needing for now. I guess I'll just put a shortcut to the
stand-alone version (since OE doesn't run on Win7) and see how that goes for
me.

Good to know that QF works with WLM. Thanks for letting us know, Tom.

I've never used any of OE's successors. What seem to be the significant
changes?

There aren't a lot of changes between OE and WLM that I can see other than
the display part of it. The font appears to be faded or washed out on read
messages, and the unread are not truly bold, more like Arial Black. There
are work-arounds for that.
Rules and Block Sender work about the same, as do most other aspects of it.
Personally, I think it's a decent replacement for those using OE or Windows
Mail in Vista- the look and feel of WLM is similar, and the learning curve
is simple.

Before I had purchased Win7, I checked out some other mail and newsreader
programs, both all-in-ones like Thunderbird and Forte, and separate ones. I
even tried Outlook 2003 with the MapiLab NNTP plug in for newsgroups.
Although they are all good programs, I didn't think any of them were a good
replacement for Outlook Express for me, so I went with WLM. Others will have
differing opinions, and that's OK. This was just what I liked, and now use
on my Win7 notebook. (This reply is posted with OE since I'm on my XP
desktop now :) )

If you peruse microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop, you'll see a lot
of likes/dislikes. I use the mail part of the live package, which includes
email, calendar, and a newsreader. Each of the different programs can be
downoaded separately if you don't want Movie Maker, Photo Gallery, or any of
that stuff. Some of it works on XP and Vista; all of it works on Win7. You
can get it here: http://download.live.com/ .

Thanks for the explanation (I had thought you were using WLM on XP!).

Sorry, I wasn't intentionally trying to mislead you.
I did try WLM on XP, and it worked the same as it does on Win7. But since I
had been using OE, I went back to it when I upgraded my notebook from Vista
to Win7. So now I use OE here on my XP desktop, and WLM on my Win7 notebook
when I'm not at home.

On a side note to the original subject, after installing and uninstalling
all those mail and news programs, CCleaner DEFinitely found a mess of
invalid entries ;-) Using CCleaner, I removed them all and suffered no ill
consequences. Didn't notice any improvement in performance either, but it
did clear up a couple of recurring event log error entries.
