Can't open windows mail

Hello.. I am having a problem trying to open my windows mailbox from
internet explorer 8.. I can't open my mailbox from the icon on my internet
explorer toolbar ... I can open my mailbox directly from the windows start
button but not from IE 8..any ideas on how I can fix this??

Verify that Windows Mail is the default mail program from Control Panel>
Default programs> Set program access and computer defaults> Custom> (click
the down caret)> Windows Mail.
