Can't load OS, machine keeps rebooting

I am having problems load XP Home following a power cut - Windows tries to
load (initial splash screen comes up) but then the machine reboots and goes
round in a circle after that.

Any way to correct this? May be the hard disk has been damaged?

Have you tried hitting F8 at bootup and selecting:

- Safe Mode?

- Last known good config?

Yes tried all those but makes no diff, all behave exactly the same.

Eliminate or repair possible file system corruption from a power
failure,
ungraceful shutdown or aborted restart.

These can cause corruption in the file system which must be fixed
before you do anything
else.

You should first boot your PC into the XP Recovery Console using a
bootable
XP installation CD or a bootable CD with the XP Recovery Console on
it. This
is not the same as any Recovey or System CDs that may have come with
a
store bought system.

You can create a bootable XP Recovery Console CD:

For each of your hard disks, you should then run:

chkdsk /r
