Can't access Yahoo Groups

C

Flightless Bird
Hi All.........
Win XP pro, IE6 here.
All of a sudden today I cannot go to any Yahoo Groups, (where I could easily
before). When I try, the site opens and almost immediately I get a pop-up
declaring that IE6 has encountered an error and must close. I seem to be
able to access other sites ok, without getting the message. Anyone know
what's up with that?

Vaya con Dios,
Chuck, CABGx3

From your message headers:

X-Newsreader: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.2180
X-MIMEOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2900.2180

You are running a very outdated and less secure version of IE/OE and XP in
general. You have absolutely no critical patches installed since Service
Pack 2 was released in August, 2004.

I would suggest you visit Windows Updates ASAP. After your machine is been
brought up to date, see if you still encounter the same issue.

If your Windows version is not authenticated, you cannot get updates. It
is considered a pirated copy if not authenticated.

Thanks Bruce, but I do not wish to persue that path. I am only looking for
a reversal of whatever caused this situation to suddenly come up. As a
further note, I am able to access all Yahoo Groups as normally, if I start
my computer in SAFE mode, but not in NORMAL mode.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated,

If your computer were fully-patched, that'd rule out the primary cause of
your problem.

Phrase it as you wish Bruce, but that is NOT what I said. I could
"eliminate the possibility" of the problem being in my computer by simply
buying a new computer, but I do not wish to persue "that" path either. I'm
looking for a "pill", not "major surgery". Thanks anyway for your time and
advice. I will keep it in mind as a last resort.

Perhaps someone else may have run across this same problem and found a
simpler solution they would care to share.

Maybe there exists no pill for the disease that you inflicted on the
computer by depriving it of security updates for so long?

It may well be that it does not even help anymore to update it now. It may
be too late, damage already done. What you could try in that case is
to re-install the operating system from CD and then immediately apply
all the updates before surfing the net again.

Sometimes when a page doesn't load properly in IE I'll try it in Firefox and
it works. It's a free workaround.

Well, it appears Procrastination has won out. Not really wanting to load up
on "updates" and change to a new Browser, I just sent Yahoo a note and
waited......(they NEVER respond until after the fact......and still haven't)
But all of a sudden a couple of days later all is golden. Everything seems
to have returned to normal without me making any changes. Guess maybe it
wasn't an old outdated IE6/OE/WinXP problem after all. Thanks anyway guys.

Well, whatever you do don't try Google Documents or other Google tools with
IE6. They are the first of many that have already dropped support for IE6.
What Bruce proposed was not a Major inconvenience change, but a practical,
common sense thing to do when you are running a Browser that is no longer
supported. IE6 is a problem whether it happens to be once again working with
Yahoo groups or not.

Thanks for the thoughts Gregg.........
I'm not one to jump ship just because someone else "doesn't support" my
methods........sometimes I just go along without their participation in my
life.......such as Utube for example.......I personally would rather not
have Utube anymore than to change Browsers at their coersion. My car is a
1989 model....."they" don't support it any more either, but it gets me to
work EVERY day at 30MPG, so I'm not about to buy a new one just because I
run into some minor problem. Our IS dept says they "don't support programs
written in Excel".....but in their case is simply means that they don't know
how to. I supply users with working Excel program solutions to their ORACLE
problems every day. And, you can still buy brand new computers today with
Win XP installed, even past Vista and Win7.

So, enough "soaping".......thanks for taking the time to offer your
thoughts.

Vaya con Dios,
Chuck, CABGx3
