Can't access Kingston USB DTI/1GB thumb drive running Widows 7

The following error is logged in the system event log when I plug-in
my Kingston USB DTI/1GB thumb drive under Windows 7 (The
ScRegSetValueExW call failed for Type with the following error: Access
is denied.)

For starters the thumb drive works properly, a friend just copied an
application onto it which I would like to retrieve.

NOTES: When I insert the drive, I hear the usually sound which
indicates that a device (US8) has been detected, but it doesn't appear
in Windows Explorer. It does however appear in Computer Management/
Disk Management, in the lower part of the screen, as disk 8 removable
without a drive letter assigned. When I right click it I'm offered
the following options - Change Drive Letter, Format and Properties.
If I select either Change Drive Letter or Properties I receive the
following error: "The operation failed to complete because the Disk
Management console view is not up-to-date." It goes on to suggest
that I refresh the view, restart service or computer. Suggested
actions don't resolve problem Also if I right-click and select the
Format I receive a completely different error " AN UNEXPECTED ERROR
HAS OCCURRED. CHECK THE SYSTEM EVENT LOG FOR MORE INFORMATION ON THE
ERROR. CLOSE THE DISK MANAGEMENT CONSOLE, THEN RESTART DISK MGMT OR
RESTART COMPUTER. Suggested action doesn't resolve problem.

Lastly, I verified that the USB port works by inserting a Samsung
music play and it said ready to use. ANY IDEAS?

BTW: This is for Windows XP. For Windows 7 question, use
answers.microsoft.com

No ideas! The Kingston DTI/1Gb does work correctly under Windows 7,
Vista and XP.

Windows 7 is still in beta and Microsoft is making money by
flogging off a beta version which was generally available for
free. I compared the files from beta version and the released
version that I bought from Amazon and surprisingly the files are
identical including the dates.

Comparing them to OEM versions, the dates have changed on OEM
versions but the files are still identical in size and names so I
concluded that Windows 7 is still in beta and one has to wait
until SP1 comes out this june.

What!!! You are stating that Windows 7 is still in beta? Windows 7
is a "retail" product sold in stores in North America.

The fact that it is sold in stores in North America doesn't mean
it can't be a beta. Let us assume that it is retail as you say
then why has M$ already released 135 patches since it was
officially released last September/October 2009?
