Cannot media share, can I choose a specific network?

I cannot Media Share with my XBOX 360. It says the network is public. There
is both a public and a private network. Can I make it share only on the
private network, and not the public network? I always detects the public
one, and won't allow me the option.

I am running cable internet from modem to PC. (LAN1) I have a separate
wired connection from PC to XBOX360. (LAN2) LAN1 is Public, as it loses
internet connectivity otherwise. I have made LAN2 Private to enable Media
Sharing.

I suppose I could change network type, lose PC internet connection when I
want to Media Share, but would like not to have to do this every time. Am
currently having to copy files to USB drive to play on XBOX360.

The current network configuration is the only one I've been able to keep
stable. I have tried multiple routers, but always lose connection to one or
the other device, and have to completely reconfigure within a few days.
