Cannot Download from IE8!

O

Flightless Bird
I cannot download anything from IE8! It just goes to my default search
engine (Bing) and gives me a notice such as:

"We did not find any results for
http://software-files-l.cnet.com/s/software/11/11/54/98/unlocker1.8.8.exe?e=1263799023&h=859973e04aff6de5c2fb726eb858a9d2&lop=link&ptype=1901&ontid=2248&siteId=4&edId=3&spi=05978e882199caa17702f289f4a7782a&pid=11115498&psid=10493998&fileName"

What to do?

Hi O'Riely,

Go to http://forums.cnet.com/

and post that download link and your Windows and IE versions for their
support people to have a look at. From what I can see the issue is all at
cnets end.
or
Do you have BitTorrent installed? Ditto... contact their support site. (you
may need to purchase the commercial version to qualify for support there).
or
(Assuming IE8) Tools>Internet Options, Security tab, click "Reset all zones
to default"
+
also you may have to add cnet to your trusted sites, but the cnet forum will
be able to supply that answer. You may have to tweak your default security
settings to allow "Open files based on content not extension"
or

There are a number of other shareware hosters that also offer that download.
http://www.google.com/search?q=unlocker1.8.8.exe

Internet outages may be preventing some mirrored sites from connecting. You
could wait and try again later.

(strange... I do not see the authors web site in the google search
results.<wink> it could be that the author has withdrawn their software from
download)

Regards.

Windows XP /IE8 Updated

The problem seems related to Webshots. I had to do a system restore to
enable downloads again. I've written to Webshots. The issue affected all
downloads from all sites. Very Weird!

Other comcast users have reported that their current comcast toolbar was
incompatible with IE8. Check for an updated IE8 compatible version if you
have it installed.

(Why I wonder<wink> would the toolbar cause IE8 to crash when I download
something from another site<wink>

You are probably running XP SP2 (which does not have DEP - Data Execution
Prevention) Update to XP SP3 for additional security to your IE8 browser.

Regards.
