Then use a two-step copy process. Find a friend who has Vista and copy
it from his machine to a thumb drive, CD, etc. Then copy from that
media to your computer.

If I had any friends, I wouldn't hang out in these crummy newsgroups. :)
The few people who will admit knowing me are not running Vista.

I don't really want to install Windows Mail, I just hate being told I

Ah, OK. Sorry, I didn't realize that's what you meant. Since I wasn't
interested in the download, I hadn't tried it.

But I just tried it. The result was the message you got, and
MalwareBytes AntiMalware popped up the following message: "Potentially
blocked access to a potentially malicious web site."

I have pretty much settled into Thunderbird 2 as a replacement for
OutlookExpress because I don't like Windows Live Mail. I just wanted
to take a look at Windows Mail to see if it was any better, but it is no
big deal. Thank you for your time.

If you're really interested in installing Windows Mail I can upload

If it is not too much trouble, that would be great. I guess what I need is
everything in the "%SystemDrive%\Program Files\Windows Mail\ " folder
on Vista. Just pack it all in a zip file and put it where I can reach
it. I'll let
you know when I've got it, even if I don't install it right away.

I've been reading a bit about this and there are lots of pages on how
to do it. I don't think you need all the files, just a dll or something.
I think you just have to replace a dll and change some defaults.
Have a look at this tutorial, the download links all work.

It seems I may have misunderstood you. I thought you were complaining

Try me. I've googled and followed all the advice but it will not open on
W-7. I moved all the files from WM into WLM and replaced those there but it
still looks and acts like the despised WLM.

My HP came with WLM already installed. I Googled like mad to find WM to
download but quickly found MS wont allow that for some reason. What the hell
could it cost MS to let us download it? >:-(

NOT TRUE! I tried that and it doesn't open. I also replaced all WLM's
files with WM files and it opens and works and looks the same as WLM. If
you believe WM will open on W-7, clue me in how to open it. I despise WLM.

Plenary of disgusted people are doing it. Google the information. There
are loads of websites and Forms discussing it. But it apparently wont work
for all of us. I moved it from my Vista machine, replacing the correct dll
for a bit-64 computer and it still doesn't work. It wont open. You can
also try replacing all WLMs files with the files from WM (overwrite those
already there) and you will see it's still the hated WLM - nothing much
changes. I'm going to try and get my husband to take the W-7 machine since
he don't bother much at all with email and newsgroups. I'll do a reformat
and reinstall the OS on this Vista machine and keep it for myself. If W-7
is the best MS can come up with I'll switch to a MAC when the two XP PCs and
two Vista's go and I can't get any of them repaired anymore. It's not just
the email/news problem but I don't like the changes to how files are saved
and in the WE tree.

Before you give that advice you need to try it yourself. You can switch the
files, but WM wont open. If the Vista is 32-bit and W-7 64-bit, you need
the correct dll for WM. Not all the sites and forums mention that.
