branded software?

Have been looking at W7 Ultimate OEM prices (need for laptop PC) and came
across several which said they're 'branded'. They did not say what that
meant or what 'brand' it is. I'm not clear on what 'branded REALLY means so
can someone tell me?

TIA

I believe it means that it's an OEM copy of Windows that was intended
to be sold with a particular brand of computer, such as Dell, Gateway,
HP, etc. It may or may not be difficult to install on another brand.

It means that the advertiser/seller of such installation DVDs is
announcing that he/she is illegally reselling branded (i.e., Dell, HP,
etc.) OEM installation/recovery disks that originally came with a
computer. Would you really what to give your credit card number to such
brazen thieves?

Sorta suspected such (IBM, DELL etc) but hadn't thought they might be
thieves; thanks for the confirmation!
