Blue Whales Harmed By Sonar

Sometimes the obvious is a little painful to read about in scientific journals. For example, what would you do if someone was yelling in your ear? You would move out of the way, right?

Blue whales are no different than you and I. Military sonar screams and the endangered whales react. Duh.

Using tracking tags on 17 blue whales, which feed on large swarms of krill in the ocean, the scientists found the giant sea mammals would cut short dives for food after a sonar “ping”.

The findings are published in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B.
