Blocking spam

B

B Roberts

I have a spam filter which works ok but
I keep getting the same spam message (Viagra)
on my outlook express email

I have highlighted it and then gone to
messages and hit "block message" and
the message is deleted.
Next day I get the same spam.
I get no other spam

Is there something else I can do?

Help would be appreciated

Cheers

Set an OE rule to delete or send to a special folder, anything with viagara
in the subject line.

You can't block it by blocking the sender: it might be the same spam every
time but it's from a different source almost every time. To do a really good
job of blocking spams, you need a 3rd party app to do so. I find that using
OE's rules works for me, but ... I am in the vast minority - it's seldom
going to work for other people.

Blocked Senders won't work on most spam since it only blocks the e-mail
address which is constantly being changed. Use message rules instead.

For starters, you need to obtain a new e-mail address if you want to
stop all spam completely. Once your e-mail address is "out there," any
spammer can obtain it. In fact, your post's headers contain this
address:

gochanz@yah00.co.nz

Perhaps you can go to the Yahoo mail page and set spam rules there to
filter out all e-mails contatining the word "Viagra."

Posting the OP's e-mail address in the body of your response was not a
very smart thing to do. Nonetheless, I've found that when using
Thunderbird (no different from OE for this purpose) for three different
webmail accounts I get very little spam because I use the providers'
facilities to filter spam, and they do a good job of it. My GMail
account gets hundreds of spam messages monthly, and only rarely does one
get through to my own e-mail client.

Oh, NO, you didn't!

I had munged it. Changed the "o"s to "0"s. Pay attention, son! Since OP
had already included his *actual* e-mail address in the headers (and
anyone can see headers, especially spambots), no harm was done.
