Right - done that for all three so we'll see what happens. Between your

I can't say for sure because I don't use the news client you do, but keep
in mind, you may need to KF everyone that ever replies to whomever you
have KF'd as well.

Usenet is hiearchal based, meaning it's treeview like. Let's say Alias
post a message: "MS really did it this time"........

In a typical Newsreader, you'd see the OP, and then all replies to it are
collapsed under it, and you need to expand it to see them. Let's say 5
different people replied to it, none of which you have KF'd.

What *could* result is instead of seeing one Alias post threaded and
collapsed, you may see 5 posts entitled: "RE: MS really did it this time"

But, as I said, I only know what XNews does with orphaned posts.

You'll just have to see what happens.

Wouldn't it be easier to just not read threads started by Frank Or Alias?

Yes they may quoted in other threads Dan - no way round that . And yes I
don't have to read any posts by those whom I have found to be offensive
and I no longer do. However if I can go even a little way towards removing
them from my news reader then I'll be quite happy . This is a great group
and I have learned a lot about Win 7 here in between the trash. Agreed
it's an alt. group but the gratuitous, puerile, humorless repetition of
obscenity as practiced by some here inclines me to make a personal gesture
however small and ineffective . It may be futile but it makes me feel better

When you get fed up with reading the replies to Alias you can
edit the rule and add more names.
Tools > Message rules > News ...
Select your rule and 'Modify'.
Click on 'contains 'Alias'' and add the new name.
I usually give people a couple of goes but if they persist
in talking to him they join him in the rule.

(Again...not familiar w/WLM.........)

What's the logic with that (as in AND/OR/NOT/NOR)

You say 'and add the new name'.....

..... is the filter 'Alias' AND 'NewName' ?....or....
..... 'Alias' OR 'NewName'......or is it possible to......
..... 'Alias' AND ('NewName1' OR 'NewName2' OR etc....)

There is no logic involved.
You type a name, click Add, type another name, click Add ....
If you ever get round to running Windows Live Mail you'll see how it works.

Another rule you can make is to filter on specific words.
When I frequented a Vista group I found I had to create a
rule that deleted any post with Linux or Ubuntu in the
Subject line. That cut out a lot of crap from cross-posters
to Linux groups that was ruining that newsgroup for me.

Unfortunately, or not, I'm sure I will never get around to using WLM.

And no, it's not a hating MS issue. It's an 'I've always hated MS e-mail
programs' thing. I did however use full-blown Outlook for email for 2
years when I was forced to by a previous employer. My biggest issue
was/is(?) *ALL* email data being stored in one big file that was prone to
corruption.
