The old MicroPlanet Gravity - it's text based, has great control and
rules and does everything that Usenet is good for.

It's a feature of your newsreader software. Since my crystal ball is

And if everyone would just ignore him eventually he'd grow tired of
getting no responses and go away on his own. But nooo... you reply to
him and it eggs him on and he keeps posting and posting and posting......

I use a piece of software, Turnpike 6.07, which singles me out as using
Demon at some stage. It was initially written back in the early 90's
and in its day it was probably the best package available as it
addressed all of the massive flaws that Bill Gates and his cronies built
into the original M$ email / usenet software. It has not been updated
since the original introduction of Vista and today a licence to use it
will cost GBP199 unless you sign up to be a customer of Demon, when it
is free. So it is completely impractical for the vast majority of
people and will probably be totally dead in a few years. It does not
work with Win7, but does with the Windows Virtual PC XP Mode.

However it does have one serious redeeming feature and given the heading
of this thread. When I wish to remove a contributor from being
downloaded I go to the menu heading "Articles" and then click on "Kill
Author"

Hmm!!!

Yep. No problem Alias... until you find your instructions on how to change
your addy, then I just 'right-click' and trash you again. You don't change
it often enough... probably cause you forget where the instructions are.

bye sweetie.

I ought to have added, if you do killfile them and they reappear, it usually
means they have changed something about their address to avoid your
killfile. You just need to do it again.. and sometimes again...

It's not so much the "learning" it's the remembering that's the problem for
me these days. Well I'm over eighty now and if you want to be bored by
things that happened sixty years ago I'm your man - just don't ask me what
happened yesterday :)

They often change their address but are reluctant to
change their name, so you can create a rule based on a name.
In Live Mail, let's take Alias as an example:
Tools > Message rules > News ...
New.
Select 'Where the From line contains people'.
Select 'Delete it'.
In the lower box click on 'contains people'.
Type 'Alias'.
Click on Add, OK.
Enter a name for your new rule, Alias.
Save rule.
(You can 'Apply now...' to remove all marked messages).

The trouble is that there are several different ways of doing it.
