Best email program for Win 7?

I'm using Thunderbird and I think it's alright. Not extremely good but it's not bad. And it's free, so I should
not complain too much. Can feel a bit slow here and there. Maybe when you have lots of folders, filters
and e-mails like I do. I have used Outlook (in Office 2007) but it's a bit too much for me. If my memory
serves me right, I think the message editor is better in Outlook. Don't get me wrong though, it is still
alright and good enough in Thunderbird. It has a few annoyances that are not really that important if you
just want to send your message quickly.

Thanks for all the replies.
Have been using Thunderbird for a few days now and whilst I can read emails
I simply cannot get it set up for newsgroups.
I have copied all the settings from OE and have double checked with my ISP's
support but I always get timed out error when connecting to server.
TB says it can import settings form OE but it seems that's only if OE is
installed on that PC.
If it was installed I wouldn't need TB in the first place! It will not
import an IAF file saved in OE on a different PC.
Also in my attempts to set up ng access I have 2 accounts which don't work.
I can't figure out how to delete these accounts!
Have trawled through TB help and Googled but no joy so far.
If I run an Office XP CD in Win 7 can I install only Outlook?

I am using Thunderbird for the first time with Windows 7, after years
with OE, and I didn't and don't have any trouble setting up news servers
and groups. I didn't try to import anything, though. Server setup is
straightforward, and I don't understand why you would have a problem.

One very important reason for my selecting Thunderbird over other
mail/news clients is that it is available in a portable version that
does not require integrated installation. After years of dealing with
incompletely uninstalled programs and dead registry entries, I am using
portable apps as much as possible with Windows 7.

One of the things I like is that it has separate inboxs for each addy,
it doesn't stick all your mail into one inbox.

Another of the security features of The Bat, the programme does not
download images from outside sources. Only images embedded in the
message are shown.

No, TB does download the images, all you have to do is click "Load
Images"

Also The Bat offers built-in PGP, something that TB don't. You can
also use more sophisticated versions from classical PGP 2.6.3 through
PGP 5.x up to current PGP 8 and 9; GPG is also supported.

It still doesn't do it by default - you have to elect to do so, or put the
sender on your trusted list ("always download images from...")

OK, it's not by default, but by clicking "Load Images" you are
downloading from the net.

Tried TB, Pegasus & Incredimail, couldn't get newsgroup access set up in any
of them.
Tried Windows Live Mail and it was very easily done.
Problem now solved.

Yeah it's pretty much like OE anyway. I find it to be just fine.

That's hardly surprising! neither Pegasus or Incredimail do
newsgroups.

Pegasus is an email client, it doesn't do newsgroups. I use Pegasus
for email and Agent for newsgroups. The best of both worlds!

Yes. Also, I prefer free programs. It's not so much about the money,
but about the crap they put in (commercial programs) that ASSUMES
you're a criminal. If you experience a problem with that, there's
little or no help available. Sometimes you don't even get a copy of
the program, just a web installer.

I do to, as well as something called "usenetmonster".

Hi Mark

Just had a quick look at their site; a tad pricy for me at $36 (or
thereabouts) per year, the rollover is a nice feature tho.

Do they block the spam for you or do you have to set that up on your
own?

Personally at the moment I favour block accounts, 25GB from Astraweb
for instance is $10, if your only getting text groups I'll be giving
the balance to my grandchildren!

Of course with them you have to set up you're own filters, NewsProxy
works really well with Agent (and most other newsreaders I believe).

There seems to be a misunderstanding here. I was agreeing with your
statement "I block all posts from googlegroups." and mentioned another
SOURCE of spam. I am filtering both of them.
