Balloon Notifications

P

I have just downloaded and installed Microsoft Time Zone, a small application
that downloaded and installed ok. Now I get a message that says 'Balloon
notifications are turned off on this machine and must be turned on in the
registry'
I have always avoided doing things in the registry, especially when that is
all it says. A case of, if not proficient leave well alone. Does anyone know
a simple method of overcoming this please?
I am running Media Center Edition service pack 3 Thankyou

This response is for disabling but should give the idea to enable.

HOW TO: Disable Notification Area Balloon Tips in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;307729&sd=tech

Control Panel-Folder Options-View
Uncheck "Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items".

There's a reg file here:

I have the balloon tips without having the item EnableBalloonTips but
if there it should be 1 in your case. That is also the value that
Kelly's .vbs file uses.

Did you try the Control Panel option?

- Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then press ENTER.
- Locate the following subkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
- Right-click the right side pane, create a new DWORD value, and then name
it EnableBalloonTips.
- Double-click EnableBalloonTips, and then give it a value of 1.
- Close Registry Editor.
- Log off Windows, and then log back on.
