backup window freezes!

Hi,
Everytime I try to backup either thru the wizard or with
run...ntbackup.exe... or try to copy to C: (not sure if I am doing this
right tho), the backup window freezes, and the only way to continue, is to
end task, with nothing accomplished. What can I do?
Thanks,
Jim

Probably the simplest thing to do would be to purchase an external USB hard
drive and Acronis True Image. The Acronis disk is bootable and you can use it
to make an image of your hard drive to the USB external. If you ever need to
recover your system for ANY reason, you do it from the Acronis bootable disk,
and restore an image from the USB drive. Pretty simple to use, and in my
experience works every time.

similar to mark's suggestion,

there is a free version of
making a bootable cd and
making images:

--------------

look into the programs
called driveimagexml
and barts pe.

with dixml you can create
images of your disk in cd
size files then you can copy
them over to the ext drive.

my suggestion is to create
a folder on the hard disk
called DiskImages

then with the program
create the image files into
the folder above.

you can then copy that folder
to the ext disk.

nextly use barts pe to create
a bootable cd.

the bootable cd will give you
access to the hard disk in the
event of file system failure.

you can also copy the drive
image program onto the
barts pe disk and also install
the driveimagexml plug-in
into barts pe.

I'm sure the above methods
are completely new to you.

however, you can practice with
the above to gain a better
understanding of this
methodology.

Ben, for what it's worth, I have a BartPE with a Driveimage XML plug in that
failed to restore images kept to an external hard drive. I wound up having to
copy the data off with the BartPE, and reinstalling Windows. Was a few years
ago and I don't know why it wouldn't work; but that's why I moved to Acronis.
I've not had one lick of trouble restoring an Acronis image.
