Technically - if you have your installation media for all of your
applications that you utilize, their product keys/serial numbers, a method
*external* to your hard disk drive to restore the system 'as shipped' or at
least install the Operating System (Windows XP I assume) - then all you need
to backup is the 'stuff important to you'. That's about as well as anyone
can define it not knowing you or what you might believe is important.

Documents, spreadsheets, databases, pictures, Internet favorites/bookmarks,
emails, contacts, downloaded installation files, music, drawings, etc and so
on. thinsg you made and that cannot be replaced by installing Windows XP,
Office 20__ and the likes.

My suggestion - cover all bases. Purchase a Seagate Replica 500GB drive,
use it to backup everything you could ever need even if you lost all of your
media and your hard disk drive had to be replaced (it could do what is known
as a bare-metal restore to get you back up and going from the last full
backup.) $99-$149 U.S. External drive and practically no knowledge needed.

The ones that would cause you problems if you lost them. The choice is
yours.

You might want to read this article on backup I've written: "Back Up

Back up everything. If you don't, and get a disk failure you may spend a
week just re-installing the OS and all it's updates
and any drivers that you had updated.
