Automatic backup

My automatic backups are going ok so far on my external 250 gig usb hd.
The next scheduled back size says 138 gig but there is only 91 gig left.
Does this self clean old backups? Or will I have to delete older backup
files and which ones?

12-16-09 93 zips 16 gig
12-20-09 11 zips 1.44 gig
12-12-09 32 zips 5.6 gig
1-03-10 6 zips 798 mb
1-10-10 14 zips 5 gb.
1-17-10 next scheduled backup

There are other back files with long coded file names in the gb range.
One is 50 gig.

NOt positive about this, but I believe that old backups are dumped
only when the space allocated to backups on the drive is
completely full. Just delete the old ones -- you don't need them
all, just the latest good one.
