Audio - Not detected

The following was my interjected response to "Audio Problem" in another forum:
I have a very similar "Sound" problem. I have a dual boot setup, Win 7 64 and
XP Pro 32. I have a brand new ASUS sound card. All is fine in XP. Sound card is
not detected in Win 7. How is it possible to install drivers to a device that
isn't there?

I have not yet found a fix as I only clean boot installed Win 7 Ultimate
yesterday (and already don't like it) but I am a very determined person, and if
there is a fix, I will find it. I do however believe it to be a flaw of some
sort in Win 7 as it doesn't even detect the card. I just had back surgery and it
isn't easy working on pc's. but I will give it my best shot. I plan on
installing 3 sound cards at the same time. This is only to see if Win 7 detects
any of them. I will let you know the outcome as soon as I can. In the meantime,
I suggest a different approach to the problem. Like I stated earlier, I believe
the problem lies in the operating system. How is it that the sound card is not
even detected? As in your case, block306, Win 7 sees your sound card
intermittently.

Try the following please. Go to filehippo.com, download, install and run
Speccy. You will find it listed under "System Tuning". Then go from there. Keep
me posted. I am still working on display issue with Win 7.

Have you gone to the Asus website to determine if your sound card is
compatible with Win 7? If so, have you downloaded the most current drivers
direct from Asus and installed them?

I've seen quite a few cases over the past 10+ years where hardware
remains invisible until the drivers are installed. It's not really
that unusual.

No because he believes that if you don't have the device detected it is
impossible to install drivers for it.
