Asian Character pop-up?

B

Bill

Flightless Bird
I purchased Office Professional 2007 in CD form from an online vendor. The
certificate of authenticity was ok. I installed the program successfully;
however, a blue star icon appears on my startup tray and a small window pops
up when I call an Office program. The window has several buttons and is all
in Asian characters. One button makes the window go away. The other takes me
to a page selling Microsoft Office but, again, all in Asian characters. I
cannot delete the star icon and the window pops up each time I use a program.
How can I get rid of the icon and stop the pop-up?

What online vendor? Sounds like you got screwed.

As I said the certificate of authenticity was ok. All Office programs work
fine, by the way. It is only the pop-up that concerns me. Could the problem
with the Asian pop-up be caused by a trial version of Office 2007, which I
installed on the same system and used? Do I need to uninstall that?

By purchasing a legal version of Office. The COA that you claim to have comes in
many different forms and shapes on a version that is not legal. Just for the heck of
it can you tell us what kind of hologram (picture) is on the front of your install
CD along with the Part No..

You definitely need to fully uninstall the trial version.

The CD has an geometric pattern on the top half. The bottom half is covered
with lines repeating Genuine Microsoft. Overall the CD is a rosy-beige
metalic color and reflects the red-blue spectrum as the disc is tilted in the
light. There are 3 small holograms. Upper right is a rounded rectangle that
changes from the word Office to the cloverleaf symbol for Office 2007. This
overlaps a rhomboid with 2007 horizontally that changes to Office vertically.
Lower center is an oblong lozenge that changes from GENUINE to Microsoft The
Part No. is X12-01445-01.

Uninstalling the trial version seems to have ended the pop-up. Thanks for

Correction: After uninstalling the trial version of Office 2007, the Asian
pop-up has appeared once during hours of work in Excel. All elements of Excel
that I have used so far are fully functional.

Then I'm out of ideas. I know you don't like to hear this, but I still
think you may have gotten the shaft. My last suggestion is to find a
friend/family member who's running the exact same version of Office you
have. Uninstall your version and install theirs using your key. Good luck!
