Application panel loses focus

I have a 64 bit application where, when a certain panel opens for user
input, that panel loses focus (the title bar changes from bright blue to dim
blue) as soon as a key is pressed or the mouse cursor is moved over the
panel. If the mouse is clicked anywhere in the panel then the panel regains
focus for about 1 second and then loses focus again. Thus, input to this
panel is impossible. This is completely repeatable.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the application after a clean
boot but this didn't help. Tech support says that I am the only person who
has reported this problem. They suggest that it is a conflict with something
else on my computer. However, this doesn't seem right since many of the
other panels from this same application work fine. Also, the problem still
exists if I start the application from a clean boot (only ESET firewall
running). Other applications (including the previous version of this
application) also work fine.

Since this is an expensive engineering application I can't just switch to
another equivalent application.

Any suggestions for debugging this? Is there any way to determine where the
focus goes? (I'm assuming that when this panel loses focus then some other
panel or application must gain focus.)

Dell T3400 computer
Win XP x64, SP2

Thanks,
Don Culp
