All Programs menu is missing program names

Hi, all of the programs in my Windows xp do not appear when I click on "all
programs"
It seems that the window cannot fit them all. How do I correct this?
Thanks,
Alcatt

If the menu shows only one row of programs, you have an arrow below, click
on that arrow to see the other programs. Or rightclick on the Start button >
Properties > Start Menu tab > Customize > Advance tab, clear the checkbox
"Scroll Programs".

If you have multiple rows already you may have to organize your start menu
by putting stuffs into folders.

Heres how to do it:
Double click my computer and go to C:/Documents and Settings\username\Start
Menu\Programs where username is the name of your user. You'll see a lot of
folders containing shortcuts and other folders. This is where your start menu
gets its format. Arrange that how you want it, and it should mirror it on the
start menu.

For example, if you want your games to be in one location: create a folder
called Games. Drag each folder that pertains to a game into that folder

You may also want to do the same for C:/Documents and Settings\All
Users\Start Menu\Programs. It has the shortcuts that all users have, whereas
the first location has the shortcuts to a particular user.

Your question did not indicate whether this is a change in behavior or
you are just missing something you expect. So just in case you are
unfamiliar with this aspect of Windows ...

In addition to what Rey gave you, you need to be aware that the "all
programs" display is only slightly related to the programs you have
installed. Most programs are installed in C:/Program Files. As part
of the installation process, they can create a shortcut in a different
directory which controls the "all programs" display. Some give the
option during installation; some do it automatically; and some may not
do it at all. If the point of your question is that an installed
program is not appearing, you can manually add it by first creating a
shortcut to the program and then moving it to the directory Rey
identified.

Thank you for your replies, Misters Schwarz and Santos,
I understand the folder instructions but here is the issue that prompted me
to write in the first place.
I recently installed a new 'Brother" brand printer. In the past whenever I
installed a new program it always put the program at the very end of the "All
programs" menu. Instead, this time, it is nowhere at all. When I installed
the program I purposely did not install the shortcut on the desktop as my
desktop is already cluttered by the myriad programs I need to access. But
when I went to the All program list it is not there. I already have a folder
named Brother but XP did not put it in there either. The "All Program" menu
fills my whole screen and there is no room on the end of it, so I assumed
that there must be a way of shrinking the font or forcing XP to make 4
columns instead of the three that appear.
Can you verify that I cannot manipulate it in any other way than to use
the process that Mr. Santos recommended?
Thanks in advance, Al Catt

I have no idea if the start menu pop-up can be expanded to 4 columns.
Nor do I remember the other responses you got a month ago. If yours
is truly over-full, it is possible the entry you want is there but
there is no room to display it.

It sounds like you need to organize your Programs start menu. It is
located in two different directories:
C:/Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs
C:/Documents and Settings\<your_user_id>\Start Menu\Programs

You may need to log in as an administrator to manipulate the first. If
you have a lot of individual programs listed, try to group them into
folders. Use any grouping that makes sense to you. (If nothing else,
group them alphabetically.) The object of the exercise is to get the
Programs start menu down to about a column and a half.

While there, note whether the link to the Brother program was created
or not. If it was, you can move it into the Brother folder. If not,
navigate to the executable, create a shortcut (should default to the
desktop), and then move it into the Brother folder.

BTW, the menu does support nested folders, if you want.
