Album art, track info applied from wrong album

I have a few treasured rips from little-known labels. For instance, Ron
Eschete's jazz quintet doing their very tasteful interpretations of Beatles
titles. Problem is, WMP 11 thinks this album is 101 Strings' covers, and
overwrote the [tediously typed-in] album information including cover art,
track numbers and titles. Similar trouble with old Columbia Great
Performances CD reissues of LP albums, and paid downloads from Amazon.
Can I protect my rips from this mutilation, or provide updated
information to the stores?
P.S. Whatever happened to WMP>Help>About>version number? And the hokey but
cool eye candy onscreen in the 'Now Playing" tab that was in XP? Sorry to
add this whiny footnote but I'm suffering a little future shock here...clues
welcome.

Cobalt, you jerk. Buy your albums from Microsoft-approved vendors! Have you
considered switching to recent Country or Hip-Hop?

You can try reasonably hard. Head to Tools -> Options -> Library

Below the checkbox Retrieve additional information from the internet',
ensure you set this to 'Only add missing information'

You probably don't want to have Rename/Rearrange set either - but for
the next step I mention, you won't be able to set ratings if you don't
uncheck 'Maintain star ratings in files' (to make the ratings store in
the media library database instead)

Additionally, you can make the tracks and folder read-only, which
should prevent WMP from updating the info in the files themselves -
right-click the folder in windows explorer (not WMP), choose
Properties and check 'Read Only' then let that apply to all folders
and sub-folders.

Not much chance of getting info to the stores I'm afraid. I read oce
that it takes 3 *identical* correction updates by different users, to
get a reconsideration of track lists.

When I say identical - I mean - exactly the same spelling,
capitalisation, spacing etc. You can imagine the chances of that are
pretty slim.
