Adobe Reader 9 question

Is this an acceptable newsgroup for an Adobe Reader 9 question? If
not, can you recommend one?

I dl'd the "Installation manual", which is halfway down the first
page, from http://www.channelplus.com/product_detail.php?productId=225

A) I can view it, but when I try to Find anything with Adobe Reader
9.3.0, I always get zero hits. Even if I already know it's there.

8) Also, if I try to use the cursor to select text, I usually can't
select anything, even after I used Customize to add the Select Tool
Cursor to the Select and Zoom Toolbar, (and it appears there and I put
my cursor there and click on it.) If I use Cntl-A, which it says is
Select All, it only highlights the page number, or the company name
and address, never any text.

Are A and B caused by AR or because the file is wierd? Why would
they cause a file to be like this?

C) Also they have a function called Read out loud, it just says two,
three, four, five, six... to the end and then it reads the entire
Limited Warranty Statement. That it reads pretty clearly, sort of!
(It prounces LLC as "lousy". I guess its failure to read the text is
for the same reason it won't highlight the text.

Adobe's web-based Help is so short it's ridiculous.

D) Are they on a campaign to make AR worse, so people will buy Adobe
Acrobat? It seems the functions I have used for 14+ years are harder
and harder to find or to use. Is it worth my finding my old downloads
and reinstalling a prior version?

I know there are alternatives, even free ones, but I'd like this to
work too.

A more appropriate place to post questions about Adobe Reader might be:
http://forums.adobe.com/community/adobe_reader_forums/adobe_reader

The PDF file in question does not appear to have any live text in it, just
scanned images of text. Thus would explain why you are not able to do a
search for text in the document.

Good luck,

Thanks. You know I know that adobe is good for images, but after
reading and searching 100 manuals, it never occurred to me that all it
was was an image. Except the Warranty for some reason.

Thank you.

And today I found a second manual like that, from a Garmin GPS!
