I just hold Shift and right click then select open with...
and yes notepad was just my generic text editor reference.
I use notepad2 and/or open that stuff in VS a lot.

You've just read a post from Frank, one of the resident
trolls. (I'm not saying I'm not a troll, just not typically
like Franker the Wanker.)

All problems here stem from him, since he is too immature to
do anything other than post filth and stupidity. You put sh*t
in, you get sh*t out.....but he doesn't understand that.

Of course he'll chime in here calling me names and talk of how
he's 'kicks my a**' on a daily basis, and his talk of animal
sex, and stuffing my head back up my a**, and how I insulted
his family, and blah, blah, blah.....he's just an overgrown
baby that knows how to post on Usenet. (Oh yeah, and he'll
also say that he 'owns' me as I can't not reply to any post
mentioning my name. He doesn;t even own himself.)

And by the way Frank, both KDE and GNOME file rename functions
have only selected the actual filename, and not the extension
for a long time. So this is just another case of MS just
copying something else.

I'm not saying the aforementioned desktop packages didn't copy
it from somewhere else also.....

......just that it certainly wasn't MS that came up with this
little feature.

The first thing I do on every PC is to uncheck this box.

I don't like files with a hidden .exe suffix and an icon suggesting a
PDF file.

You seem to care, since you took the time to reply and

I agree, there are much better text editors than Notepad - I just used
it since the previous poster said that was what they used. I tend to
use separate apps for specific purposes rather than one app that does
it all. I find it suits my workflow / style better. YMMV.

What hex editor do you use, and is it compatible with Win7?
Not that a hex editor would need to be truly "compatible," I guess :)

I am currently using XVI32 Hex Editor, at the bottom of the page here:
http://thedatalist.com/pages/Hex_Editors.htm
I have also used Frhed, referenced on the same page.

I prefer XVI32 because it is portable and saves settings better.

After reviewing the TextPad feature set, I stand corrected.

"Viewer for binary files using a hexadecimal display format."

NOT a hex editor.

Addendum. On a closer look at Frhed, it is also portable and seems to
hold settings fine. So take your pick. :)
