A Lab Grown Human Brain

The human brain is part of the central nervous system and one of the body's largest organs composed of billions of nerve cells called neurons. Nerves in other parts of the body make up the peripheral nervous system. The difference is the regenerative powers of the peripheral nervous system cells. Neurons cannot repair themselves.

In 2007, a bionic nerve cell was developed from fat stem cells. This technique held promise for the study of non-regenerative tissues.
