You need 64 bit Flash. Try looking here:

http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ to see what you have, if
anything, installed.

There is no 64 bit Flash player at present. You can use Internet Explorer
32 bit with adobe flash player, however.

Only 64-bit browsers need 64-bit plugins! :)

Did you use 64-bit IE or 32-bit IE? Use 32-bit IE and install Flash
Player 10.1 beta!

64 bit Windows 7 has both 64 bit and 32 bit Internet Explorer. The 32
bit version should be the one on the desktop. If not, both are on the
Start>Programs menu. Flash is only available for the 32 bit build.

No, Adobe dropped the ball by not keeping up with 64 bit. YOu can run 32
bit programs with old 32 bit flash. WIndows 7 64 bit has both 32 and 64
IE if you didn't notice.

Not at all. 32 bit is on its last gasp. Win7 may be the last 32 bit,
the new versions of server are only 64 bit. Even linux was 64 bit more
than a decade ago and while 32 bit is there, it is for old hardware.

64 bit. The way to go hands down. If you can't run it in Firefox or
get the plugin you probably don't want it or need it.

An outright lie.

Hi, Bob.

See this Adobe TechNote for the real reason we can't run Flash in 64-bit IE8
(and other 64-bit browsers):
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/837/cpsid_83715.html

The key line there is:
"Adobe Flash Player is not supported for playback in 64-bit browsers. Flash
Player will, however, run in a 32-bit browser, running on a 64-bit operating
system."

So it is not Win7 that is the problem; it is not 64-bit per se (many (most?)
other products now run fine in 64-bit Win7. But Adobe Flash is still stuck
in the 20th Century, it seems. ;<)

Our solution, for now, as others have said, is to run 32-bit IE8, which is
included in Win7, as well as 64-bit IE8. You'll find the two versions here:
32-bit IE8: C:/Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
64-bit IE8: C:/Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

The 32-bit version runs by default, but your Win7 may have been edited
(intentionally or otherwise, by you or someone else) to default to the
64-bit version.

I've changed my default to 64-bit IE8 (I don't know why) and often find
myself looking at a YouTube or other page that offers to "update" the Flash
Player for me - but that's a useless exercise, as you've seen. When that
happens, I just highlight and Copy the URL, then start 32-bit IE8 and Paste
in the URL and hit Enter and watch the video. It's a nuisance, but it takes
less than a minute.

And, by the way, Adobe doesn't even hint at this on their Adobe Flash Player
home page:
http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

I have read this thread as it exists right now. All of the responses are
valid and should guide you to an acceptable solution No, you didn't make a
mistake by installing the 64 bit OS. It's just that Adobe for some reason
hasn't come up with a 64 bit version of their Flash Player plug in. By
installing a 32 bit browser, what did you mean? If you don't mind my
asking, what browser did you install?

Hi, Bob.

> Installed a 32 bit browser,

WHY? As several of us told you, 32-bit IE8 is already embedded in every
copy of Win7! And 64-bit Win7 has BOTH 32-bit and 64-bit versions of IE8.
Just click and run the one you want.

In fact, if 64-bit IE8 runs BY DEFAULT on your Win7, then somebody (your
vendor?) must have changed the default.

Actually, I re-read your comments. Let me correct it: At least he isn't
using that SHITTY Ubuntu that 99.99999999999% of the people who try Ubuntu
reject it as the garbage it is.

Is that better?

No, simply run the 32-bit version of IE8 instead of the 64-bit
version, as Dick Mahar said.

It's not a lie. Tell me then - Ubuntu and all the other Linux distros have
been FREE for years yet are on very few desktops. Why oh why didn't word
spread like wildfire and everyone install those distros on their PC's and
ditch Windows?

I'll tell you why: It's because those Linux distros are crap and everyone
knows it. Ooops.
