Hi everyone,

Does anyone know if there is a 64 bit Newsreader for Windows 7 64 bit?

My old 32 bit Reader is slow.

There is absolutely no need for a 64 bit program to read news.

....and, it's not going to be any faster just because is 64 bit
vs. 32 bit.

You might want to update your Thunderbird to the latest version.

Try free Microplanet Gravity, still 32 bit but fast

I guess you're confused. No wonder. You use Ubuntu. Oops.

Hi, John.

Which newsreader are you using?

As the others have said, here and in the other NG where you posted your
question, there are no 64-bit newsreaders yet - and there may never be any.
Well, some day, all software will migrate to 64-bit, I suppose, just as it
migrated to 16-bit and then to 32-bit. But because of the relatively
low-tech job a newsreader does, there probably would be no advantage in a
64-bit over a 32-bit newsreader.

There are dozens of good newsreaders available now, so please don't feel
that you are stuck with the one you have! Tell us what you have and you
will likely get LOTS of advice (both good and bad). It might help if you
also tell us about your hardware.

Mint is just Ubuntu with a new name. So why did they need to create Mint?
Why didn't they use their so called expertise and work on one distro?

Biggest single factor affecting usenet speed is the quality of provision
of the news feeder service, IME.

Variety is the spice of life. Intelligent people see that. Morons like
you want a monopoly and only get Windows to choose from so you don't
have to think.

WRONG.

So 500 inferior distros of Linux is smart? HA HA HA HA HA HA. All you get
is confusion in the marketplace. No wonder Linux stays at less than one
percent.

Wait a week. 10 more distros will be introduced to confuse everyone. Alias
will move to the next failure!

As far as I am aware this one:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.7)
Gecko/20100727 Lanikai/3.1.1

Is a 64bit newsreader based on Thunderbird but is still work in
progress.

I don't know for sure, but I don't know of any 64-bit newsreaders. And
since I'm afraid that newsgroup use is dying, I doubt very much if we
will see many, even in the future.

> My old 32 bit Reader is slow.

I greatly doubt that a newsreader's being 64-bit would make it any
faster. And by the way, I use Forté Agent 6.0, and I find its speed
just fine.

Really? Try pulling a few days worth of headers for boneless and see what
happens.

To answer the original question, Newsbin has a 64bit version.

Xnews. x32 not x64.

http://xnews.newsguy.com/

It's a super feature/filter rich Usenet newsreader. Free. Speedy. Super
high learning curve. Zero glitz interface.

Hasn't failed me up to Win7 x64, but it's x32.

I use the current test version.

NOT bloatware! Lean and mean!!!

I don't know what "boneless" is but I do know a fair amount about
computers and you will NEVER need what a 64 bit program does for reading
and replying to news in usenet.
