Bird and I spent the day playing with Lycoris build 61, Phoenix 0.4, and a new splash screen for the website.
Lycoris build 61 builds the best desktop GNU/Linux system for new users. My students who are comfortable with MS Windows usually bang away on the Lycoris system. They love the inclusion of real player and they are able to find options quickly. Some users don't even know that they are not in Windows. They just think it is a different theme !
And thinking of themes .. the Mozilla theme included with Lycoris is nice. However, I'd really like something to be done about opening tabs on top of what I'm doing ... I hate it. By default Mozilla doesn't turn the feature off. Instead, go to prefs and click on the option. This will fix opening a link but it will not fix the opening of a new tab -- it will open on top no matter the setting. sniff. Phoenix 0.4 has a popup block and is a bit faster.
Now the splash theme is something I was tinkering with over the web. There is a website that generates logos based on the options provided by the visitor. After a few hours, Bird and I agreed on the one on the site. The color combination is also true to my like and I'm not sure Bird likes them ..
