Last night / This AM (it was a bit blurry) I was continuing to tinker with Openbox. If you are just joining us then you might want to know that this is a window manager based on blackbox. The window manager was downloaded onto my Libranet 2.7 box but the opentools conflict with fluxbox and blackbox. Openbox was also not showing up as a session choice in gdm. I solved that problem last night.
It dawned on me that I probably had not created a file in the /etc/gdm/Sessions directory for gdm to even know that Openbox was installed. Sure enough -- a file wasn't there. Duh. I opened the fluxbox file, changed exec fluxbox to exec openbox and then did a save as openbox. Next, I had to change the permissions of the file so that it was executable. This was a simple chmod at the command line, but being lazy and very tired I was using Nautilus. I clicked instead of typed :-)
Anyway, I ended the session I was in. Bingo ! There was openbox. It looked rather plain and this was probably due to the missing tools. I'll keep tinkering.
Today (Friday right?) I have to go to the flight center at Dryden, Edwards Air Force Base. It is the last day of training. We had a banquet last night giving our thanks to NASA for hosting a great training session for the 13 science teachers from LAUSD. They did a wonderful job. There is also going to be a new program for teachers that will be announced soon. And, in case you were not aware, one teacher has been chosen to go to the internation space station and teach from there ! Isn't that cool ! :-D
Well, I haven't applied for teaching there -- but I have been planning the trip to antarctica. The ISS may be a little out of my tolerance of excitement. At least they have clear reception to the internet
