It's a relatively quiet week for Lindows.com as we expect the general release (Version 3.0) to become available in a few weeks. Our emphasis on ease-of-use and affordability will make LindowsOS the first practical, mass-market operating system available. We're hoping that our offering will reinvigorate the competitive landscape.
There are a few days left to sign-up as an Insider for $99 and save a few bucks before the price changes to $129. You'll also receive 2 free passes to the Desktop Linux Summit (an additional $50 value) which is slated to be a phenomenal event. Along with some of the leading technology companies, Lindows.com is hosting the Summit on February 20th and 21st in San Diego. The Summit planners are dedicated to showcasing the latest Linux technologies for the desktop. The same compelling economics that have propelled Linux to 30%+ market share in the back office are happening in the front office and you can witness these developments, first-hand, at the Desktop Linux Summit.
The emphasis will be on practical uses of Linux, so expect to see plenty of demos of products ready for use in homes, businesses and schools. Companies such as Codeweavers, Hewlett Packard, Lycoris, MandrakeSoft, Sun Microsystems, SuSE, Ximian, just to name a few, announced their support of the Summit. Sun has even signed on as a platinum sponsor of the event Many of the companies are echoing the same message, that Linux on the desktop will breakout in 2003. To read quotes from the above companies, visit Lindows.com's press page. Mark your calendars and register now to ensure availability. (Plus, we know that you'd like to spend some time in sunny San Diego during the winter!) Register now at www.desktoplinux.com/summit.

We talk a lot about how well-suited LindowsOS is for 'general purpose computing' such as Email, web browsing, word processing, presentations, and spreadsheets. It amazes people to see a $199 computer with a $99 software fee (via Click-N-Run) being able to open and change Microsoft documents with a simple, double-click.
The savings are dramatic over a comparable Microsoft equipped computer where the office suite alone costs more than $400. But life isn't only about work. And LindowsOS isn't just about work, either.. Everyday, LindowsOS is becoming a better gaming machine. One of the largest sections of the Click-N-Run Warehouse is the games section which has something for everyone. Recently added to the Warehouse is Doom - the classic, gory, first- person shooter game. Before Click-N-Run, it was virtually impossible for a Linux user to install this game, but now, like everything in the Warehouse, it's one-click easy.
Card aficionados will be in heaven with Century Solitaire - a collection of more than 100 solitaire games.
And for penguin-lovers, we have the most popular Linux game of all-time Tux Racer Deluxe. This is the commercial version which you'd normally have to purchase, but is available free to Warehouse members.
Be forewarned that by level three you'll be hopelessly addicted. Just don't let your boss see you having fun! As always, thanks for your continued support. We hope to see you at the Desktop Linux Summit in February 2003.
