Well, I did it ! KDE 3.2 is now installed on my personal machine and I've been using it for about 24 hours. The rpms were pulled for the Fedora Core 1 and placed in a single directory. I then used the rpm command in a terminal.

rpm -Uvh --nodeps --force *.rpm

This installed all of the rpms. Five of the files created broken dependencies, as seen in Synaptic 0.45.

Start up of KDE 3.2 beta is very slow. The initializing screen is not complete and sound breaks before a desktop appears. However, I am able to successfully launch applications. Except Konqueror does not launch from the menu, instead I must open a terminal and type konqueror. There are times the KMenu will freeze and I simply move to a virtual console (Ctrl-Alt F8) and then back (Ctrl-Alt-F7). Then use the arrow keys to manuever.

Quanta is definitely the best looking application I've opened. I haven't had the pleasure of using KWallet yet. I started using Kontact to see how it faired. It's nice. The integration with KMail and KOrganizer make this is a nice tight package.

Anyone using the Fedora Project's Core 1 should consider testing this desktop environment ... the more people involved then the more bug reports and thus a more polished environment !
