I've been using a Libranet 2.7 box which has been upgraded many times with apt-get. However, there are problems with getting gaim 0.71 installed because of some of the libraries and I do not have access to the latest Xadminmenu. In addition, it would be nice to do a clean install and clean out some of the junk on the drive. Therefore, I started thinking of ways to painlessly change the distribution. Here is my plan.
(1) Setup another machine with a spare hard drive.
(2) Libranet 2.8.1 is installed on this machine
(3) SCP is used to copy /home/username from the old machine to this new one.
(4) A clean install will then be done on the Libranet box
(5) SCP will be used to copy /home/username back to the cleanly installed box.
Out of interest, I'm going to try this by also changing from one distribution to another ... I'm sure that configuration files will be a mess ... but ya never know.
