View Full Version : Window Managers on Slack
After the installation of Slackware 9, Birdie and I decided to stay in the command line for a bit. Finally, we used startx and were launched into fvwm. It took me a bit to remember that xwmconfig is used to change the window manager launched with startx.

I like Slackware for the very reason it doesn't automatically startx, er, start X :)
The Slackware 9 installer prompts for the default window manager. The installer's setup options, including the default window manager, can be accessed later within the Setup screen of pkgtool: run pkgtool from the command line as root, enter the 'Setup' screen, then select 'xwmconfig'.

Yes. IIRC, we were moving the cursor through the list of optionally available window managers. We left it on fvwm. My interpretation was that all would be available in a graphical display manager such as gdm. However, there is no issue with running xwmconfig at the command line and then startx. Just a preference ;-)
