live365.com has hundreds of streaming radio options from every music genre and part of the world. Though they state they don't offically support linux, the site works well with Conectiva. Simply go to the station you'd like to listen to and save its streaming file on your desktop. Next, click on it and XMMS should open it.

Thank you for the idea. After reading this post, I tried something similar. Instead of saving the file to the desktop, I chose the option of opening XMMS.

SHOUTcast and ICEcast servers should work this way too. I often listen to Shoutcast. When I beta tested IE6, I really liked the Windows Media Player sidebar (imagine listening to Live365 or Shoutcast in a sidebar :)...
Well... I believe WMP still doesn't support streaming MP3 these days(bye sidebar).
It's these things that converted me to Linux as I can now stream everything out of the box for example.
