I have Redhat 9 with Ximian Desktop 2 installed, I know when I install apt and try an apt update, it will really mess things up :)
I tried searching google for redhat and debian forums about this issue, and havne't been able to find anything that could help resolve the issue.
Any one know how to adjust apt to not mess with the ximian packages ?
Thanks for the help
Well, are you using apt because there is a package you are hoping to pull down that is not available in red carpet?
In a similar vein, JAMD is based on RH9 and they use apt. I haven't tried an XD2 installation on JAMD -- but maybe Gabbman or NinerFan are around and might answer it ;)

From what I know, isn't redcarpet just Ximian and company ? I mean they only have packages that are for the desktop environment.
With apt-get update, it will see that my gnome 2 packages are not the versions they have and attempt to upgrade which should cause problems.
Could download packages by hand or something I guess :)

I personally haven't messed with it, but several people that I know of have tried to have Ximian on Red Hat and Apt co-exist with nothing but trouble.
Your mileage may vary of course.
