Data base tutorials

I don't know the frist thing about databases, even though every day on the web I am accessing them. I have run a search for tutorials on google and find quite a few. Although I find they seem to teach from the point of view that you have a data base which is already built and want to learn to run the program.

I am looking for a tutorial that takes a computor literate person how to begin and finish building a database. I'm thinking of using MySQL.

Does anyone know of any such tutorial.

This tutorial (http://hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey/programming/php/tutorials/tutorial4.html) gives a nice overview. The start of the first lesson may seem a bit slow but it picks up with the install of the first database.
