Any new user looking for open source training material should go to http://www.linuxtraining.co.uk . There is a pdf file available for download. It's about 140 pages.

You can learn how to create files with cat; find man pages with apropos; use the cp and mv commands as well as learn to chain programs together on a single command line; discover builtins; and learn to set variables.

Simply download the file and read. Not a bad value for a new user.
