This is likely to be the first ever review of JAMD Linux, a KDE-centric Red Hat-based distribution for home users: "JAMD takes the best of Red Hat Linux 9 and makes it better for desktop use. While it lacks a couple of what I believe are essential programs, it's still a rich, Windows-busting, standards-compliant, high-performing, easy-to-use, compatible, reliable, excellent, nearly complete Linux distribution. If I gave scores to Linux, I would give JAMD four-and-a-half or five out of five stars, and I'm usually very hard on Linux distributions." The complete review by Benjamin Vander Jagt, complete with a few screenshots, is available

JAMD Linux has been around for almost one year and the latest release, version 0.0.6 has received some serious praise from users: "You have created the best, most up-to-date desktop/laptop distribution. It installed on my home system and laptop with no problems at all. Everything is up and running and doing well.", wrote one satisfied user on JAMD's user forums. Another agreed: "I have to say that JAMD is the best distribution I used to date, and I think I have tried them all." It seems that JAMD Linux has attracted many former Lycoris users, especially those who got tired of waiting for a new Lycoris release with more up-to-date software packages. In short, if you like Red Hat, but prefer a more KDE-centric distribution with apt-get and optimised for i686, give JAMD Linux a try. You might be pleasantly surprised.

I suspect this quote makes Jim very happy :)

It also gives Red Hat Linux developers a reason to check out the enhancements and determine which they will include in their next release.

Hopefully we'll see a new release from Lycoris soon. Their enhancements really spurred on other developers. The product tour in their distribution is one of the best.

Ah .. ya just gotta LOVE GNU/Linux !

well, I just started using J.A.M.D. on this computer. (my experimental Linux box)
It seems to be a great distro so far. It's quite fast.
Seems faster than Mandrake!
Really compact system. (one CD)
Great compilation of programs and very easy to update the system.
I would really like to get off Windoze for good but with the compatiblity issues, I still can't do a total switch.
my main computer has Mandrake 9.0/win2k dual boot.
I have a question...
do you have a package install for edonkey? (RPM?)
I'm really new to Linux and have a 'cow' when I see the terminal screen.
thanks in advance for the info.

I have used J.A.M.D. before. It's pretty nice.

I've been using JAMD for about a month, and for the first time in five years, I'm not looking at other Linux distrs.

Its the BAR (Best All Rounder) so far for me, and if Jim (Author! Author!) keeps fiddling and updating, he'll be getting a lot of postcards from me.

No more fiddling, just goto JAMD:

Superb compromise, what I like is that it Works! I've been trying flavours of Linux for six years, and this is the one form, and most importantly, my family. Not quite all the whistles and bells, but it is simple to install, and it works.

Congrats to Jim, what an author and Guru.
