Thanks for any help in advance!

I installed SUsE Linux 8.1 on my laptop with my local area network (2 computers, laptop & desktop) with wuftp. Since the installation I have not been able to Add or Remove Software with Yast via FTP.

-My DVD is mounted on the desktop machine.
-YAST2 Change Source of Installation picks up the FTP account.
-Permissions are set correctly to view the DVD.

The error I receive after selecting the sw and accepting the installation is:

ERROR(Media:Unkown error in subsystem)

Any advice?

You might try this explanation that is translated from German to English. (http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=de&u=http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-multimedia/2002-Nov/0270.html&prev=/search%3Fq%3DSuSE%2BYaST%2BERROR%2B8.1%26hl%3Den%2 6lr%3D%26ie%3DUTF-8%26oe%3DUTF-8). Sorry that is the closest to your exact error message.

If that doesn't help then ...

Check YaST2:

software => change source of installation.

See if the device there agrees with what is used when KDE mounts the DVD. They should agree. You might need a symbolic link. Details are in this article.

If this doesn't help then please supply us with the manufacturer and model number. Maybe we can narrow down the problem.

Thanks, your info helped me look in new directions! The issue is now solved in that I can load new software, but I have a new issue I would like to solve with this PASSWORD.

Basically, YAST2 will FTP the location of your choice based on settings selected in the Control Center Module. However, when the Install or Remove Software Module is used it does not displays your settings as follows:

mickeymouse:PASSWORD@192.168.1.132//media/dvd

I thought for sure the PASSWORD was pointing to a shadow or something secure, but actually I have no idea where it's pointing. I resolved my issue by replacing PASSWORD with my FTP password. (probrably not the best solution for anything but your own personal network.)

If I can find out where the PASSWORD field is pointing, I will post that information.

Thanks,
