Dear Ann,

I bought my son a Playstation II for his birthday, and now I'm an instant idiot.

I remember when I used to beat my father at Atari, and dammit, now I'm him!

I know you have extensive knowledge of these devices due to their devastating effect on relationships. So I thought I'd shoot this question off rather than receiving the ridicule from the local sales kid.

Playstation II can play the games from Playstation I, but I can't find a way to save the progress. The P2 games all save fine, but I can't find any way to do it on the 3 P1 games he has.

Signed,
Pong Refugee

What sort of memory card are you trying to save on to?

You need a PS1/PSX memory card for PS1/PSX games. PS2 memory cards won't cut it, I'm afraid.

Thanks Robbie.

That is indeed our problem then. I only bought him PS2 memory cards.

Nice little racket Sony has.

I'm now surpised that you also don't need a PS1 Controller.

Heh. All of the console manufacturers lose bucketloads of cash selling the actual consoles and make them back by charging unbelievable amounts for the accessories and, to some extent, the games. Sony is no better (or worse) than any of the others are or were.
