Just for the heck of it I was playing around with GNOME. This isn't my usual desktop because Fluxbox seems faster when I'm just on my own machine. However, I started to find the following layout useful whenever I want to connect to several other boxes.

The panel has 13 virtual desktops (yikes, lucky thirteen). They are labeled to let me easily move from topic to topic. The main desktop is for file work - copying on this local machine. Notice that I have remote connections going to four other machines and can thereby leverage the power off these machines.

Use ssh, xhost, or XDMCP so that you can use your machines as they were meant to be used ....

The trouble I'm having at the moment is keeping the labels after I leave GNOME. They all seem to leave too. Maybe this is a bug that will be fixed in a newer release ;) Sorry, but I haven't taken the time to investigate it.

So, what type of desktop do you use to improve productivity?
