I don't have access to a DVD writer and therefore can't try this ... but I was curious if someone has tried this as a means of installation.

Is it possible to write the three MDK isos, or three redhat isos to the DVD as 3 files, mount the drive and do the installation as if it is a hard drive?

For example, you have two drives. One already has Linux installed and the other one is brand new and unpartitioned. Can the DVD act as a hard drive?

I haven't got a DVD burner either, but it probably won't work if you burn the isos as serperate tracks. You'll probably at least need to create one big iso with all the files from all the isos in it.

For SuSE, it might work with the FTP tree 8)

Try looking at the Mandrake ProSuite DVD - obviously it is possible to hack DrakX (and, as Z_God points out, Yast2) to make this work. That should give you some clues.

The last time I looked at HD's as an installation option for Red Hat, all the RPMS had to be located within the same directory. You couldn't have some files here and some there, so unless something was changed recently, I doubt this method would work for the Red Hat ISO's.

Both Red Hat and Mandrake sell DVD's of their latest versions. I haven't seen them in the stores though. It may finally be time for me to get a DVD drive for my computer.
