View Full Version : How to Beat Microsoft
American Daily (http://www.americandaily.com/item/775) has an opinion article that almost makes sense. There is only one problem. Linux is about choice. Once Linux is regulated to a business environment then choice is taken away. Control is a central requirement in a business and it seems polar to the desires for open source and freedom.
Having said this ... I expect businesses to continue adopting Linux just as the PC was adopted in the early 80s. This is because freedom from management increases productivity. Eventually, productivity increases will be marketed as the reason to install Linux.
Just ask my sisters, How many times have you rebooted your Windows system today? Answer: only four times :P
Linux is important as the only current viable option to Windows. The large number of applications included in the major distributions is where there is so much more value. Unfortunately, these great programs are not documented very well, so most users are left to experiment on their own.
MS's behavior is appalling. Everything they do is focused on making it difficult for any competing software, operating system or technology to interoperate. This will be their downfall in the long run.
Several states are objecting to the Department of Justice’s proposed settlement. I naively thought the whole browser issue was a waste of time, but MS has gotten much worse, and it’s time for the DOJ to take action to stop their behavior once and for all.
While I agree that the DOJ should do something, I'm highly doubtful that they will do anything. Courts are impotent when it comes to understanding technology. They are too stuck on their own proper etiquette and let the truth slide whenever a rule is not followed. Bill G. knows this about courts and is well versed in simply pushing and pushing until he gets his way. He is always looking for the "clause."
Therefore, I have initiated my own private mission. I've been quietly talking to people about Linux instead of waiting for the courts to do something about Microsoft. I've also increased time spent with this website. The new Linux Support Page (http://www.tuxreports.com/support.htm) is something that I've been picturing for quite some time and now it is finally linked. It is now a matter of filling in the content for new users.

You have a great attitude and approach, and I applaud you for your efforts. I'm new to this site, but I will certainly be a frequent visitor. (By the way, I responded as "Guest" before.)
Thank you Tom. Welcome to the site. It has been around in one form or another. The reality is that you just never know what you are going to get here :D
Long time visitors are shaking their heads (up down up down).
