Hello and thank you for joining us on your Linux adventure.

GNU/Linux is an operating system built for the desktop, servers, game machines, pdas, and more. The list keeps growing. You've made the right choice and hope your time is spent discovering some of the ways Linux will enhance your productivity.

This forum is designed to help new users become oriented to using the OS. It can be overwhelming and frustrating. Therefore, we hope to guide you through some of the pitfalls by pointing you to some great reading material.

ABOVE ALL
It is important that you take ownership for your installation. No one will have the equipment exactly in the same configuration as your pride and joy. Therefore, you will need to spend time reading HOWTOs and documentation. Make sure that you always read these prior to asking questions. Otherwise, someone may respond to your genuine question with RTFM. They are simply saying that the answer is in the documents. So - enjoy reading the documents while you are sitting comfortably in your hammock.

PLACES TO START
The best place to start is on your computer. Most likely documents were placed on your drive during the installation. Check these out.

There are usually links provided by the distributor when you launch the browser. Check out these places.

Check out our weblinks too. People submit these places and most are really good resources. The others are simply awesome. We've never found a bad Linux site :)

Ask away
Don't hesitate in asking us your questions. Hopefully someone will take the time to help you. We also look forward to you adding to this area. Let us know your problems and your excitement about a particular application.

GOOGLE
No kidding. It is the best place to get information. Learn to search the web using google and you'll save yourself hours of frustration.

HAVE FUN and THANK YOU for stopping into Tux Reports!

EMH is such a good writer that we should ask her to write more often. What do you say?

Absolutely!

I really appreciate the friendly attitude on this site, the lack of rants, and the attempt to keep from getting too technical.

The writing is always polished and (again) friendly.
