View Full Version : Spam Filters
Just curious what types of spam filters you use and why you use it.

On my "main" email account from my ISP, I don't use any filters, I simply don't use that email addy for anything other than family & friends. By using a combination of my wife's & my first name, the chances that a random name generater will get it right is also reduced.
Seems to be working, probably get 1-2 spam emails a month.
For all my other email needs (site registrations, e-commerce) I use the free Iwon email. They have a blocking feature that lets you block entire domains, or just a single addy. It helps to keep the noise down, but I still get 1-3/ day. ( which I automatically block w/o opening).
Of course, since you essentially have to publish your email address here, those methods won't help you out.
Mailwasher sounds like it might be worth a look, but I haven't tried it.

from their FAQs:
----------------------------
While there is not a native Linux version of MailWasher available, there is a codeweavers WINE port for Linux available.
Head to http://appdb.codeweavers.com/ and search for Mailwasher.

I use fetchmail to download my mail into a local mailbox and use SpamAssassin for filtering. Works great.
