Hey, how come you guys never mentioned the release of Conectiva 9? I thought you liked their distro!

Anyway, I've just installed it and here is a screenshot: http://www.distrowatch.com/images/screenshots/conectiva-default.png

To be honest though, I am a bit disappointed after those few hours that I played with it. I installed nvidia drivers, but I cannot set up a usable configuration (even the one that works perfectly on Mandrake, Slackware and others just fails on Conectiva). OpenOffice crashes every time I want to select a font from the drop-down menu and the KDE menus are a big mess. On a positive side, installation was trouble-free and Synaptic is very nice (they even use it during installation to fine-tune your package selection).

Overall, my first impression of Conectiva 8 was really good, but Conectiva 9 is not that favourable.

Anybody else has played with it?[/url]

I was on their website the other day and lurking a bit ...

but didn't download it. In fact, I don't have a copy of Red Hat 9 that works. Even the SuSE 8.2 live CD evaluation didn't install. EMH was upset with MDK 9.1. On the positive side, I've been playing with the beta of Libranet 2.8 but haven't done the rc1 yet. I did play with LinuxInstall.org 3.0 the other day and it is really nice. So nice that I'm thinking of doing a comparison article between JAMD and LinuxInstall.org ... I've asked Bird to put JAMD on her machine and then the two can compare them. We'll see what happens.

There are actually a dozen or so articles on the back burner -- and just not enough time to get them done. Personally, the development of Linux moves so quickly that it is a full time daily to just keep up with the latest releases.
