You will notice two screenshots now uploaded in the gallery. These are from an i810 chipset based installation done quite some time ago. I've been tinkering with this OS for several months, trying to get a feel for it. My opinion is rather vague at the moment. Bird has been rather nebulous on her opinions too. EMH is happily playing with Xandros and hasn't shown any interest in LindowsOS.

While a full review is going to be required, it isn't going to be fun to write. I am very biased and had hoped Bird would provide a good insight into a new user's perspective. While she is good with RPM based systems, apt-get is rather new to her. As a concept, Click-N-Run doesn't seem to bother her.

I noticed, though, that TuxRacer Deluxe does not work on this system whereas Quake II runs fine. Bird would only be interested in TuxRacer and not Quake II. The lack of Frozen Bubble would also explain her lack of attention to this desktop. But that rarely means anything more than an 11 year old wanting to do other things.

I did find it odd that a message came across the screen asking if I wanted to upgrade to Netscape 7.01. I accepted and was simply taken to the download page on Netscape's site. I had expected to be taken to CNR. That seemed odd to me.

Enough for now - it's late - and I'm tired.

Thank you for the link. We'll see if bird uses the machine this weekend.

For me, I've been checking out some of the applications and how they are integrated on the menu...

I spent the evening using LindowsOS 3.0. Overall,l it has been a good experience. While I'm looking forward to Libranet 2.8, someone new to Linux might find LOS worth their time.

My biggest gripe has really been nothing special. Linux has come a long way and Lindows.com has put together a nice Debian based OS. I was taken back when I tried to run traceroute and had to pull it down from Click-N-Run. I also found myself eager to use software from LindowsDownload.com so that I could get Kopete 0.6, Sylpheed and Phoenix 0.5 integrated into the menu system easily.

Click-N-Run seems to be an area of debate. I changed the sources.list a long time ago and have used apt-get rather than CNR. I tried this same thing with Xandros and ended up with a big mess. I suspect I'm lucky with the LindowsOS installation because I didn't remove Netscape. After reading a post that says that Netscape is heavily integrated -- I thought I wouldn't risk removing it.

I'm having a friend download the new lindows beta 3.1 for me. I'm interested if it will work with my rio 600 that my wife got for me on V day. Peter the guy behind Lindows Download is cool. I requested the rio kde kio-slave and sure enough it showed up in the lindows download apt-get files.
