The installation is now complete for CollegeLinux. LILO is installed on the /dev/hda1 partition without issue. Three screenshots are available in the image gallery. One in particular is of the LinNeighborhood ... which picked up on the SAMBA server (hosted on Libranet 2.7 box). Good job.

Failure of Konqueror 3.0.3 as a web browser - due to vertical stripping. Maybe I can fix this with editing the XFConfig-4 file.

Installation Notes:
The greatest difficult came in the partition portion of the install. I'd recommend using more help as well as setting up a script to partition for a new user.

There is very little interaction required during the install.

Some of the text files for descriptions did not load during the install. This might cause someone a panic attack..

I don't want to rag on CollegeLinux but for a Slackware distribution variant, I feel like I'm stepping back in time. Vector SOHO 3.0 beta is leaps ahead of this distribution. Maybe it is simply the inclusion of KDE 3.0 versus KDE 3.1, not having the icons immediately available for OpenOffice, a horrible theme. The good part is the inclusion of Gaim, etc.

Suggestions:
Add more window managers as choices. They don't need to be installed by default but available after an EASY installation choice.

Help files for someone who is just starting out should be available. Lycoris adds a tour. it doesn't need to be that fancy but something to catch a new user's attention.

Add some sound for entering KDE that doesn't remind the user of going into Windows. I hate that default KDE sound... gulp gulp .. or whatever it is ...

Take a look at VectorLinux and see how the window managers are handled so that a user can easily choose between them. Now, VL should pay attention to how CL clarified options for setting up the network, etc. Nice job !

hi!
Thanks for your time and interest in our small distro. Well, I don't think the big issue is KDE 3.0 or KDE 3.1. Concerning the "horrible" theme, well this is something subjective. Afterall the user can customize this as he deem appropriate :(

Beside gaim we also included flash and java applets plug-ins on both konqueor and mozilla. Even mandrake 9.0 doesn't have it :((

Thanks for your suggestions. The sound is a default of KDE and it is good as a test of your soundcard on boot (so you don' have to look for an mp3 or something)... I found windows managers confusing. If I am new to linux how do I know if I like gnome, KDE or ICE?

of course it is something subjective. At this stage we are more concerned on how to improve the installer etc. But onca again I am VERY thankful for your time and coverage. I really mean it!
