Someone in the penguin shot suggested that the news on the index page would be better served by being at the top. While I'm not opposed to such a move, the recent headlines block is supposed to direct people to the latest headlines. However, I'm not too thrilled with the look of that block so maybe it should be worked on first.

Let me know your thoughts.

Maybe if you altered the Recent Headlines block a bit, that would be best.

I agree except that I'm getting tired of how SLOW this site is responding. I have everything possible done to speed it up and yet it is slow... slow .. slow...

As you know robbie_n, I've played with PHPNuke on another site but am not happy with it. I've just finished uploading XOOPS and am playing with it.

http://www.tuxreports.com/v2/

This seems much faster but there aren't 1800+ stories in the database either !

I usually open new tabs when I click on links, so at first I would end up with 3-4 copies of the same page ;o)

For stories that link to off site articles, a direct link "up top" would be nice, saves page loads (thus time at 28.8).

Just a thought: keep your "up top" news box, but have the links point to a separate news page. Your current page seems a bit long.

Also the "Welcome to Tux Reports" box really only needs to be read by first time visitors. It kinda gets in the way once you know what it says.

Just my $.02,

Dave
